Be prepared for a wait after you apply for government jobs. Although some people get hired into government in ā relatively short amount of time, for other applicants it could take more than a year.

If actually applying for a federal job is still off in the distant future for you, make sure you plan accordingly. You don’t want to have an unnecessary gap in your work experience or income stream or get avoid-ably bogged down in a security clearance process if, for example, you have lots of international contacts or a longer history to be investigated.
